Suleiman II  (RUKN AL-DíN SULAYMÂN II B. QÏLÏCH ARSLAN)

AH593-600/ AD1197-1204

The large copper coins produced by Sulaymân as malik were continued at the same weight standard and in the same style but with his new title of ‘sultân’. There are two parallel series, one with and one without the lesser title of ‘shâh’. Coins are known for each series dated 595 or 596 as well as an undated type, but those dated 598 or 600 omit the ‘shâh’. Some have a symbol below the horse: an ‘a’ as found on some of the ‘malik’ coins or ‘tp’, on the dateless coins, and rosette on one type of 598. These symbols may well indicate different mints or local power groups. One rare type of 595 omits the nimbus and has the symbol and style of the Konya silver coins. (Broome).
